1996

  • The 4th generation Corvette ended.
  • only 190 Grand Sport Corvettes were convertibles.
  • LT1 engines requires automatic transmissions.
  • The 1996 LT4 (330 HP) engine option may be ordered only with the ZF 6 speed manual transmission.

1997

  • 179.6 inches the overall length of the C5.
  • Black lights for the instrument panel and a "plastic" intake manifold were featured in the 1997 Corvette.
  • The gas door that was located in the rear of the car was moved to the driver's side rear fender.
  • 1997, 1998 and 1999, were Torch Red in color.
  • The first use of a transaxle in a production corvette transpire in 1997.
  • Borg Warner built the first 4 speed in a Corvette.
  • The windshield wipers that sweep in the same direction instead of in the opposite directions was first introduce and use in the 1957 model.

1998

  • 1,163 Pace Car Replicas were produced.
  • Aztec Gold has the lower ordered exterior color in 1998.
  • The first to have same sport suspension package as the coupe.
  • The 9752nd 1998 Corvette rolled down the assembly similar to the total 1997 model production run in November 4,1997.

1999

  • The Fixed Roof Coupe, that became the basis for the Z06 production was introduced.

2000

  • Millennium Yellow and Dark Bowling Green Metallic were the two colors that were added.

2001

  • There were 5,773 Z06 Models produced.
  • Z06 came with a new power plant known as the LS6.
  • Horsepower is up to 350, and torque has increase also.
  • Active Handling and Chrome Exhaust tips are standard.
  • The colors that has been added for 2001 are Quicksilver metallic and Speedway White.
