1986

  • All 1986 Convertibles were Indy Pace cars and were distributed with the pace car decal package.
  • The first official record that of 20 Corvettes that has been sent to Lotus in England for conversion into LT5 powered prototypes for the ZR1 project.
  • The Malcolm Konner Special Edition with a 4 speed manual transmission could be ordered in 1986.
  • Only 4 units were being ordered with a Copper Metallic exterior color, it was the least popular exterior color.

1987

  • The first time, a 6 way power seats could be ordered.
  • $19,995 the cost for the 1987 option RPO B2K.
  • 16 exterior colors were presented for 1982 and 1987 Corvettes, the highest number of color offered in the history of Corvette.

1988

  • Corvette's 35th Anniversary.
  • 2,050 35th Anniversary Edition Corvettes were built and all were white Coupes with white wheels, leather interior and special emblems.
  • In preparation for the SCCA Corvette Challenge Series, GM built 56 race cars, all were street-legal.
  • Unidirectional 17" wheel were introduced.

1989

  • Production of the ZR-1 started, there were 80 units built, but none were sold to the public.
  • Introduction of the FX3 adjustable suspension option.
  • 9,749 Convertibles were distributed.
  • The ZF-6 speed manual transmission was first introduced.

1990

  • The ZR-1 was finally presented to the public, with it is a special rear body panels.
  • In-dash CD player could be ordered for the first time.
  • All ZR-1 were prepared with the LT-5 engines which produced 375 horsepower.
  • ZR-1 engines were built by Mercury Marine in Oklahoma.
