1980

  • The first time to be computer controlled was the 1980 (305 cubic inch) California Corvettes.

  • The first Corvette that a speedometer had an 85 MPH top speed was the 1980 Corvette.

1981

  • All Corvette became computer equipped
  • Optional Corvettes were not offered in 1981.
  • 1981 Corvettes were provided with two cooling fans that could increase engine power.
  • The production of 1981 Corvettes were in Bowling Green and St. Louis.
  • 1981 St. Louis Corvettes were painted with Lacquer, while cars from Bowling Green were painted enamel.

1982

  • The Corvette came with fuel injection for the first time in 17 years.
  • The fuel injection for 1982 was 'cross fire injection' (manifold) injection NOT tuned port.
  • The Cross Fire Injection was used in 1982 and 1984 it was replaced with Tuned Port in 1985.
  • 1982, You could not order a standard shift transmission for the first time since 1955.
  • A pop-up rear hatch window was offered but only on the Collector's edition.
  • The bolt on wheel was re-introduced in 1982 it is similar to the 1967 wheel.
  • 6,759 Collector Edition Corvettes were manufactured.
  • The last year of ordering an 8 track player.

1983

  • There were only 43 Corvettes built, but many quality control problems occur so it was decided to close down production.
  • No 1983 Corvettes were ever released for public sale.
  • When the problems has been solved, GM decided to present the car as an 84 model.
  • It was said that all 1983 Corvettes were destroyed, only one remains and was displayed in the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky.

1984

  • The first to have the traverse single leaf 'plastic' spring suspension.
  • The 1984 model had the searing windshield rake angle of any previous American production automobile at 64 degrees.

1985

  • 1985 launch the Bosch Tune Port Injection (TPI) which can improve the fuel economy and could increase the performance and horsepower.
  • The last year to order the factory CB Radio.
