Grasp the gearshift of a Corvette 4-speed gently but firmly.  Shift it.  See? No stop, no vagueness.  Nothing but a smooth, short throws.  Your hand imagines two machined surfaces gliding precisely across one another.

            Snick! First.  Click! Second.  And so on.  No wishy-washy “maybe I’m in gear and maybe I’m not” feeling.  It’s as positive as a Grand Prix car but as smooth as a sedan.

            That’s the way it ought to feel when you shift a sports car.  Like shaking hands with a craftsman.
